Questions
How do I check whether an Ethiopian payment is real?
Paste the receipt link, the transaction reference, or a screenshot of the receipt into links.et. It fetches the receipt from the bank or wallet that issued it and returns what that institution actually publishes: amount, sender, receiver, reference and timestamp. A screenshot on its own proves nothing, because a screenshot can be edited; the check has to go back to the institution.
Which banks and wallets does links.et verify?
links.et verifies receipts from 17 Ethiopian banks and wallets: Telebirr, CBE, CBE Birr, M-PESA, BOA, Dashen Bank, Awash Bank, Zemen Bank, COOPay Ebirr, Kaafi Ebirr, Amhara Bank, Abay Bank, Oromia Bank, Berhan Bank, Ahadu Bank, Siinqee Bank and ZamZam Bank. It also reads HuluBeje point-of-sale receipts. Live availability for every one of them is published at https://links.et/status.
Can links.et detect a fake payment screenshot?
Yes. Drop the screenshot in and links.et reads the transaction number out of the image, then fetches the real receipt from the bank using that number and compares it. An edited amount or a reused receipt shows up as a mismatch against the bank's own record, because the amount shown is the bank's, not the image's.
Is there an API for verifying Ethiopian payments?
Yes. links.et is an HTTP API first: POST a receipt URL or a reference and it returns the parsed receipt as JSON, with the same shape for every provider. There are webhooks, server-sent events for long fetches, and a public status page. The reference is at https://links.et/docs.
What does links.et cost?
The free plan covers 200 new receipts a month with no card. Paid plans start at 499 ETB a month. You are only charged the first time a receipt is fetched from the bank and only when the fetch succeeds. Re-checking a receipt you have already verified is free, and a failed lookup never counts.
Do I need an account from the bank to use it?
No. links.et reads the receipt pages the banks and wallets already publish for each transaction, the same ones a customer gets a link to by SMS. It does not need your banking credentials, it never moves money, and it is not a payment gateway.
